Radiation Level: Roaming

I got my iPhone 4. It was painful, but not in the way I expected.
This morning I called all the Apple stores in LA, was on hold forever, and finally determined I could only get the phone at the Santa Monica store (Century City and Manhattan Beach were sold out and AT&T doesn’t get ’em until Tuesday). Santa Monica said there was a 2-3 hour wait. I thought ‘well, I’ll bring my computer and try to get some writing done.’ That of course didn’t happen, but I sure was glad I brought my computer.
After about 45 minutes in line, I was greeted by Carlos, who seemed very laid back considering the mass consumer flood that’s hit the store over the past 48 hours.
I got the phone, confirmed my data plan and turned it on. It worked! It’s supposed to be thinner than the last one, but it doesn’t seem much thinner. It is a tad heavier, though not heavy. I’m not having any holding it wrong/losing bars issues. No crazy yellow spots. Only…
I went to sync the phone with my iTunes to restore all my previous settings from two days ago and got the error message –
MUST UPGRADE TO OS 10.5 TO USE IPHONE 4
Didn’t know that. So Carlos and I proceeded to spend the next 3 and a half hours downloading Snow Leopard ($189.00) and upgrading iTunes and other software, including calling Final Draft to make sure 8 is compatible with OS 10.6 (Final Draft seems to hate Mac, so it’s better to be safe than sorry). Yes, it was compatible, but I had to “deactivate” the Final Draft (This really baffled Carlos. He kept asking me why and all I could say was “that’s what the guy said”) This took another phone call and a deactivation code. Yeah.
Finally, finally, after a free lemonade and watermelon-ade, and two “Genius Bar helpers”, I was able to sync my iPhone 4.
And I’m exhausted.
