Listening To: Write About Love by Belle & Sebastian

Dear writer friends,

I’m throwing up a challenge to all of you!  One month – OCTOBER – to write a ROMANTIC COMEDY!

I don’t care if you write horror, TV, blogs, plays, ad copy, young adult books, WHATEVER.  I’m challenging you to write a Rom/Com just to prove that you can do it.  All of you know that FalloutGirl would love to spend October writing about an Italian villa full of poets taking refuge during the volcanic eruption of 1816, BUT I’M NOT GOING THERE.  Instead, I will write boy meets girl, loses girl, gets girl back with a hip, modern twist that is fresh yet familiar.

WHO’S IN?????

I have some scripts if you want me to email them to you.  Remember the love story doesn’t have to be a guy and a girl falling in love.  It can be mother/son, brother/sister, etc.  The story just needs conflict, taboo, love and sacrifice.  Oh, and some funny stuff.

I know most of you are thinking “no thanks, Rom/Coms aren’t my thang”, but just think about it.   Especially if you’ve been having writer’s block or unable to sell what you’ve been working on.   Think about how you could knock this genre out of the park.

I’m giving you a few weeks to outline and watch/read other movies.  Actual script pages begin Oct. 1 and we can celebrate our first drafts on Nov. 1.

What do you think?
